This problem is on a couple of newer computers running windows xp, sp3, all
updates current. Office 2007 is installed and its updates are current. When
trying to open a file on the server, I double click to open the file and it
starts to open the app and then nothing. It sits there for several minutes
and will not open the file. I have to use task manager to close it. This
problem only occurs when opening files from the network. If I go and open
Word or Excel and browse to the drive and select the file from there there,
it opens fine. If I've try to open the file from the network and leave it
running and then try to open the same file directly from the application, the
one using the application opens first, then the one from the network drive
opens just after it. I've checked the users permissions to see if that could
be a problem, but they have full control/access to the folder and the files
they are trying to open.
Any suggestions?
PS. We are running Symantec Endpoint Enterprise and thought that might be
part of the problem and have uninstalled it to see if it might be the
problem. No difference in the way the files open.
