Word (and Excel)2007 will not open

i've tried repairing, uninstalling & reinstalling the whole suite. Power
Point seems to work but Word only gives me the initial splash screen while
Excel opens the app but doesn't seem to open anything further and if i check
task manager both apps are not responsive. They were working just a few days
ago and nothing's been installed that i know of (it's my daughter's laptop)
but even after a full reinstall i can't get word to respond, any help would
be MOST appreciated. she's got term papers due!

I've got a similar problem - neither Word nor Excel will open at all, and
they haven't worked since I installed them. Clicking on a doc/spreadsheet
won't open them, and clicking on the program icon itself doesn't work either.
I cleaned out my registry in case I had any old remnants of Office 2003. I'm
going to try a virus scan, but I don't hold out any hopes there. Any other
suggestions?

Okay... The problem seems to be that I'm missing the normal.dot template - a
search of my system didn't turn it up at all. Unfortunately, since I can't
open Word at all, I can't create a new one. Any suggestions?

You need to enable Hidden Files and Folders and the view Systems Files in
Explorer before Find will be able to see normal.dot.
