Word and Excel Won't open file from Windows Explore?

Word and Excel 2003 won't open a file from Windows Explore or from Email
Client. Seems like the file associate is not working right. Uninstalled
Office and reinstalled but didn't work. Any suggestions?

Did you try correcting the file associations? (I am assuming that if you
know the terminology, you know how to check/correct it. If I'm wrong, we can
help there.)

Right-click a Word/Excel file, properties, opens with ... change, associate with
the correct program.

I did try to change the association once by changing it to Notepad and then
back to Word. It is all Word and Excel files. Powerpoint does open
correctly though.
