I have a friend running Windows 98. I don't believe
their computer can handle the newest version of Office.
Is their away to buy an ealier version of WORD that can
run on a minimum computer, or do you have any ideas? John

See http://www.microsoft.com/office/evaluation/sysreqs.asp

Current Office (XP) seems to be able to run on 98, per this web site.
Don't know about Officd 2003 which is out next month.

Earlier versions available on Ebay or other ... or go with something
free from Openoffice.

Office XP can run on Windows 98, but Office 2003 cannot. Since Office 2003
has not yet been released for retail sale, it should still be possible to
get Office XP.

Adding to the previous responses, the only problem with Office XP on
older computers is disk space. From my experience, Office XP functions
just fine, perhaps a bit slow. You might have to do a custom
installation, removing unnecessary components to fit into the available
disk space, leaving 500MB free for working space.
