Word and Wordpad Crash

B

Bobby

I have a laptop running Windows XP Pro, SP1a. A few days ago, my MS Word
started crashing about 30 seconds after opening. Basically, I open word, do
what ever, then after about 30 seconds, the MS error reporting window will
pop up saying that Word needs to close and gives me the option to restart
word or not.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling office but this made no
difference. Because I needed to do some work, I decided to use Wordpad but
the same thing happens with Wordpad.

Does anyone have any idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is your default printer a network printer? If so then chances are the
printer driver is stored on the network and Word is unable to locate
it.

Word needs to query the printer driver when it starts to determine
printable area, font list, etc. If the printer driver isn't found Word
will crash. (btw, they've sort of correct this problem Word 2003. If
Word is unable to find the printer driver you will be notified instead
of just crashing)

To resolve the problem remove the current printer and add it back
using the Add Printer Wizard so the driver will be installed locally.
