Word application disppeared after clicking desktop button

I ask if someone can help.

I used Microsoft Windows XP and Office XP. Everytime when
start MS Word XP, when I click on the "desktop" icon on
the tool bars, the MS Word application will minimize and
disppeared. I can see the Word is running at the task
manager. It should be closed for some reason. I try to
install the same MS office in Windows 2000 in my
notebook, it does not has the same problem, I trust this
is something due with OS. But I am not sure.

Please advise if someone can help.
