Make sure you have the drawing toolbar visible, click on
the white arrow in the bottom left of the window, click
outside one corner of your word art holding down the
button, now drag the arrow diagonally across the word art
until it is beyond the opposite corner and let go of the
button. Your word art should now be selected. It may be
easier to bring it in front of the text while you edit it
and then send it back behind.
