Word as editor in Outlook- how to eliminate unwanted symbols?

If I use Word as my editor in Outlook, I get a series of dots, paragraph
symbols, arrows and other similar things. This is new. I've typed many
e-mails and responses to e-mails without this feature. How do I turn it off
and still let Word by my editor?

I'll bet they don't print out like that.....right?

You've selected 'show formatting marks' - you can disable this by pressing
the paragraph-symbol button on the standard toolbar, or tools | options |
view, clear the tickbox under 'formatting marks'
