Word attachment will not open

I create a Word (8.0) document and send it as an attachment. The person who
gets it can not open it by clicking on the attachment. Word will try to
open, sometimes quickly saying virsus scan requested, and then nothing
happens. Since many people can not open it is either my Outlook Express
(6.0) or my Word problem?
