Word auto closes after trying to insert a symbol

Whenever I try to insert a symbol, word closes with an
error - "Word has encountered a problem and needs to
close". The error report is in winword.exe. I have
downloaded all updates, changed fonts, and uninstalled and
reinstalled word - no help. Any suggestions?

Problems with the Symbol dialog (or Page Setup, Paragraph, Font, Style, or
Print) often point to a damaged printer driver. Try deleting your printer
and reinstalling it. Better still, see if there's an updated driver you can
download from the manufacturer's Web site.
