word becomes too slow when equations are inserted

hello,
I am using office 2000 and creating equations through Equation Editor. When
my word go beyond eight to ten pages it becomes too slow. I feel it is
beacause of equations which I have inserted.It also takes much longer time
to save the file.
Can you help me to solve this problem
