Word behaving like INS key activated

A co-worker's MS Word application began replacing text as it was being typed
instead of inserting the text (behaving as if she depressed the insert key
while she was typing). The insert key was not depressed and I could not find
a setting in MS Word. Can anyone give me some guidance?
