Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error

At times when trying to save a word doc the following
message appears: Word cannot complete the save due to a
file permission error. It then changes the file to a
~wrl 1882.tmp.

If the word doc had been previously saved when this error
message occurs, the old file has been changed and cannot
be read.

Any suggestions?

What version of Word are you using and what patches are installed?
Take a look under Help/About Microsoft Word to find this information.

Additionally, where are you trying to save the document? Local drive?
Network drive?
