In Word 97, when trying to spell check one particular document I get the error:
"Word cannot find the spelling file MSSP2_FR.lex for French (Standard)"
I'm not using French, and other documents work fine.
The document was converted from an RTF document (which was originally based
on a file converted from HTML). Even if I copy/paste the text into a new
document, or save it as a Word file, Word still cannot spell check the text.
Word clearly recognizes the words in the document as normal text, because I
can do a Find and find words correctly.
When I turn on automatic spell checking, I get the message, "There are too
many spelling or grammatical errors in <filename> to continue displaying
them. To check the spelling and grammar of this document, choose Spelling
and Grammar from the Tools menu."
The document happens to be large, but this doesn't appear to be source of
the problem (since it happens with snippets of the text pasted elsewhere).
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Dan
p.s. I have a non-sequiter as well. I've been trying to figure out how to
change the location of my Windows temporary directory. I've been told to
change the settings of TEMP and TMP in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, but this seems
to do little or nothing. Is there a way to reliably change the Windows
temporary directory?
