Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges.

Using Microsoft Word 2002 I created some documents the had to format my HDD.
So I backed up these documents and after I had completed the format copy
these back to my computer. When I try to open them in Word the following
message appears.

Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges.

How can I get access to these documents?

How did you back up your documents? If you're trying to open
them directly from a CD, then that is the problem. Copy them
from the CD to your hard drive, open them on the hard drive, and
remove the "read only" attribute using the File->Properties menu
in Word.

I am having a similar issue; I copied files from work computer to a cd. I copies the cd to an external HD that I recently purchased for my home computer.

now when I try to open files from the external i get that error message.
Any ideas why I do not have access. I am logged on as an administrator.

There are a few other folders that I created on the external, that I am not
allowed to delete. any ideas on how to remedy this problem!
