Word Cannot Open the document

I need help with a new error that has started to occur on my PC.

When I click through the My Documents folder to where all my documentation
is stored in sub folders, I now cannot open any of my Word documents by
clicking on it directly in the sub folder (Excel documents still open). To
open the Word documents I now have to start up Word, and go to File, then
Open Folder and then open the document - here it opens fine.

This is a new problem that has started to occur as of today. I use Windows
XP and Word 2000. The error message starts of by saying Word cannot open the
document. Try one or more of the following: on the file menu click Open to
open the document, Make sure the document has a Doc extension then in
brackets is the path name to the folder. When you clik OK it then just comes
up with a string of these type messages all ending with a different pathway
name to the folder - weird!

The only thing I have done in the last 24 hours is create a wireless network
link to another PC in my house which uses Vista however I'm struggling to see
how that could have created the problem.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Please bear in mind that
I have had no problem like this accessing the files directly through the
folders in the previous 3 years!

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this frustrating issue!

Hi Herb

Many thanks for the tip.

Have just tried that and now it comes up with a message saying:

Windows cannot find 'winword'. Make sure you typed the name correctly
(which I did), and then try again. To search for a file click the Start
button and then click search.

Have done this and get several things retruning as winword in the Search
window. Any ideas where to go now?

Thanks.

If Windows cannot find winword then I suggest that you run Office setup and
select the Repair function.

Hi Terry

Thanks for the advice - one small thing though - how do I run Office setup?
Is this from my MS office installation disk?

Thanks again.

Control Panel, Programs, Select Office and choose the Change option.

You may need the CD depending on how it was installed.
