Word cannot save. Too many files open.

We recently upgraded to Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac OS X.

Since upgrading, our users receive this error if they
attempt to save to a network drive:

"Word cannot complete the operation. Too many files are
open."

If they save to their local drive, it saves just fine.

The network drive is a Novell Netware 6 drive using Native
File Access Pack for connectivity.

Any ideas on how to fix this ?

Our Macs were running 10.3.2. We upgraded to 10.3.4, but
this did not make a difference.

It appears that if you create a new document and save it
to the server, it saves just fine. But, if you open an
existing document and select save, the "too many files
open" error occurs. However, you may select SAVEAS and it
will save the file to the server with a different name.

The server is a Novell 6 server and we are using NFAP.

Hi Earl,

We've heard of issues with Novell servers (there's another thread on this
titled "Saving Word files to File Servers via AppleShare". One thing to try
is have the Novell server administrator locate the folder "Temporary Items"
on the volumes you mount and set the permissions to be everyone read/write.

Let us know if that helps.
