Word - Can't open files

Hi,

I have Word 2003 and can't open any word documents. That
is, I can not open documents I created or those that
others have created.

The same goes for Excel.

I've installed the fix that MS has provided but did
nothing for me.

I also had problem with Outlook but then I selected
Outlook NOT use Word as the editor and after that, it
worked fine.

And, as I type this, I see the MS ad for Office 2003. All
I can think is: Far from being what they say.

In any case, anybody have any ideas?

p.s. I can open files that others send me with OpenOffice,
so I know the documents are not corrupt. And no, I did not
try to open the documents after opening them with
OpenOffice... I always try to open the documents with
Office products first. Also, I installed OpenOffice after
I had not other choice (XL and Word not working).

Hi Eric,

More thank likely you are also using Norton AV. It has an option
called the "Office Plug-in" which is a little too aggressive. For
example it may prevent you from opening Office documents. <g>

In Norton AV go to Norton Options and you'll find the "Office Plug-in"
option in the Miscellaneous section.
