Word can't remember toolbar options set

I had this same problem last year and someone had a pretty simple fix
but I reinstalled my software and the problem is back and I can't
remember what the solution was.

When I set the toolbar items the way I like, Word doesn't remember them
and reverts back to the default toolbar options every time I close the
program and open it again.

Can anyone please help me to fix this problem again?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

Toolbar & Menu customizations are stored in the Normal.dotm template, which
is apparently not being updated to include your changes. The first thing to
try: With a document open make your toolbar changes then hold the Shift key
while you mouse to the File menu. Your typical Save command will read as
Save All - select it, quit & re-launch Word to see if the settings hold.

If not it means there's something which is preventing your Normal from being
updated. The three most common causes are permissions, a corrupt Normal &
3rd party software (such as add-ins, utilities & antivirus apps). If you
have none of the latter follow the guidelines here for testing Normal.dotm &
if that doesn't work come back for other suggestions:

I remembered what I did after posting.
It is that Adobe Acrobat 7.0 was buggy and screwed this feature up in
Office.
The solution was to update beyond version 7.0.5
It's all fine now.
