WORD CAUSES SYSTEM TO CRASH

I have Office 2000 operating on an XP Platform which just recently began to
freeze up every time I tried to use Word. I can open Word, but as soon as I
start typing I get an error message that says the program is not responding.
Then the system freezes and I have to do a hard re-boot. Excel and other
Office applications still work. The problem is only in Word.

This may be a partially corrupt printer driver, a partially corrupt
normal.dot, corrupt Word Data key or clogged user temp folder.

What happens when you start in test mode? From Start, run (Winkey+R), type
in

winword /a

and press enter. Does Word work OK now? Please let us know.

Try the following steps:

With all applications closed, make sure the user temp folder is empty: if
not, make it empty.
Make sure that you have the latest printer driver, delete and reinstall the
printer.
Rename normal.dot as normal.bad and test again.
Run Regedit, navigate to the Word DATA key. With DATA selected, press
DELETE. Word will create a new key when it is restarted.

I'm having the same problem, and when I ran in test mode everything was fine.
What does that mean and what can I do? I haven't tried the steps you
mentioned
after the test mode. Should I?
Thanks!!

Rename normal.dot as normal.bad
Try deleting and reinstalling the printer driver
With all applications closed, empty the temp folder
Finally, if they fail, delete the Word DATA key.
