WORD clears clipboard on startup

If I do copy (ctrl-c) of some material from a screen, and
then I open WORD XP, then try to do paste (ctrl-v) the
clipboard has been cleared when WORD opened. I have to do
the ctrl-c again and then ctrl-v to get the material into
WORD. I have never had this happen before on any version
of WORD I have used (95, 98, 2002, 2003 at work). This is
the "student & teacher" version. Is there a setting or
something where I can tell it not to clear clipboard at
startup?

This is usually the result of an add-in. The most notorious culprit is the
Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word, but if you didn't get Word as part of
Works Suite, then that will not be the one. Check Tools | Templates and
Add-ins to see what other add-ins are loading that might be causing the
problem.
