word closes after 2 seconds

I have recently received a few documents (same source) which when I launch I
can only see for a few seconds (I have reading view selected), then Word
closes (not crashes). On reopening word the document appears in the recovery
task bar. There is no difference if reading view is unchecked.

This doesn't happen on any other documents and all of my colleagues can open
the file with no problems.

There is no difference from launching from Outlook or saving to disk and
opening from within Word.

I am using Office Pro 2003.

If anybody could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
I have searched other fixes relating to Word crashing but they do not appear
to be the same.

Try starting Word in Safe Mode and then open the documents. From Start, Run,
type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open one of the documents. Does Word stay open now?

Have done as you suggested. Word stays open marginally longer...long enough
to press Ctrl P and get a print off anyway but it doesn't solve the problem
unfortunately.

Before trying anything else, try following the clean up procedure covered in
this FAQ:
