Everytime I click on the Tools menu button I get a message that Microsoft
Word has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I have already
uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Can anybody help please?? Thank
you.

What version of Word are you using? Since many add-ins add their
customizations to the Tools menu it's likely a 3rd party add-in causing the
error and uninstalling/reinstalling will not remove 3rd party add-ins. First
exit Word and go to Start/Run and run the following command:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

This will start Word in a troubleshooting mode and prevent add-ins and
customizations from loading. Then go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins and see
if there are any add-ins in the Global Templates and Add-ins list. If there
are any listed locate them using Windows Search and move them out of the
folder to prevent them from loading when Word starts. If the issue still
occurs then post back and we'll go from there.

I went through the steps you said to and there was nothing there except for
this: A20MSW11.DOT but it was not checked or anything and I still get the
same thing happening. Please help this is driving me crazy. Thanks.

When you start Word using the /a switch it prevents add-ins from loading and
when you view the list in the Templates and Add-ins dialog box you won't see
any add-ins selected. But if there are add-in in the list more than likely
the will load when you start Word without the .a switch. And since you're
preventing add-ins from loading that enables you open the Tools menu. IOW,
if A20MSW11.DOT is causing the issue you aren't going to know until you
locate it and move it out of the folder as previously noted. :)
