Word closes when a document is closed

Hi,

When I close a document within Word 2003 the whole application closes. This
is very annoying. Is there anyway to rectify it?

Is Word closing peacefully, or is it crashing?

How are you closing the document? Try Ctrl+F4.

Word closes peacefully.

I've tried renaming normal.dot to create a new one but same situation
applies.

How are you closing Word? Alt+F4? Clicking the X? Choosing File - Exit?
Etc.?

Also, what version of Word is this? In Tools - Options - View, is Windows in
Taskbar turned on or off?
