Word completely loses document

Hi,

I'm currently using Office XP on a machine running
Windows XP. I wonder whether anyone can help me with an
error I've been having.

I've been working on a document that is saved on my hard
drive but sometimes (twice in the last 2 days) when I go
to save it I get a message "floppy unavailable or network
connection lost. Documents will be saved and closed".
The file I'm working on also disappears from the folder
in which it is stored. I'm not connected to a network and
have not been working off a floppy disk. The rescued
documents are just full of question marks.

I'm keen to know
1. Is there anyway to recover the lost document?
2. What can I do to stop this from occuring again?

Thank you for your time!

Hannah

First check the same folder as the document for *.tmp files created
about the time the error occurred. If you find any try opening them in
Word and see if you can recover the document.

As for the error, what virus scanner do you use?
