Word Corrupt Files

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire One with MS XP. On several occasions
while saving a word document on a jump drive I receive the message that the
file was corrupt. It does not occur all the time. What may be the cause,
and how can I prevent it? Once I was able to recover the file through Word's
file recovery procedure, rest of the time I either had to live with it or
download a free third pary recovery software.

Great little machine isn't it? I love mine. Unfortunately, this isn't the
proper place to ask that question. More than likely it's a hardware problem
and you will need to ask either Acer or whomever makes your jump drive. I
haven't ever corrupted a Word file on my Aspire One, and I have 2 versions
of Office on it. This newsgroup is dedicated to the Microsoft Access
database product. The Microsoft website may have misdirected you.

This is an MS Access Database newsgroup; your question would be better
answered if you posted it in a MS Word or Windows newsgroup. I can tell you
though that I save my documents to the hard drive and then do a save as or
copy to my thumb drives. I have had problems with outlook, word, excel and
access keeping the file open on USB drives and not being able to eject the
drive without the files being in use. This also provides me with a backup
copy on the hard drive. USB drives although great tools but the nature of
their use is, in my opinion, more subject to corruption. You carry them in
your pocket, briefcase. Constantly connect and disconnect them from the
system and expose them to very different climates going in heated, humid,
cool areas and back. When I travel I always have two copies of files
available just in case. One on my laptop and one on the usb drive. Make
sure you always use the windows eject before yanking the drive out to make
sure something isn't still open on the drive. Wait until it tells you drive
is safe to remove.
