word could not create the work file. check the temp environment - ERROR

I am using Office 2007 on Vista and I get the following error. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled. I have verified the TMP and TEMP variables
point to a valid location with read/write permissions. Not sure what else
to check. This error occurs every time I open Word.

HELP PLEASE

Error: word could not create the work file. check the temp environment

Same problem here and after searching for hours, nothing.
I think this might have been a bungled Microsoft Update issue because the
problem started after an update.

I'm having the same issue and I was guided to the same answer. However, the
answer is specifically for Word 2000. I have Word 2007. I do not have Data
under 9. I do have it under 11 and under 12.

I'm not sure what to do.
