Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environmental

Sometimes when I open Word I get the following error message - "Word could
not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable" - sometime
then it will lock up or not save - how can I check the temp environment
variable?

in above document,
the section entitled "Check the TEMP
Folder" provides information and
instruction to double check yours.

however, as a tip i suggest to modify
the steps above by the following:

1) create a main folder on the
root directory called:

c:\temp

then instead of assigning
the tmp and temp "user variables"
to the windows temp folder, set
them to the root directory
folder above "c:\temp".

as an added benefit for
having this central root directory
for the temp files, also go to
control panel internet options
and move your internet temporary
folder into the root folder as well.

in vista, go to classic view of the control panel then:
system>>advanced settings >> environmental variables . . . .

Try this go to your internet options in the control panel and make sure
your settings are no higher than just plain old medium. Should help a
co-worker helped me with this and it seemed to work.
