Word could not fire event error

Zeph

One of our users receives this error about 95% of the time that she
closes a document:

Word could not fire event

She presses OK, and all is fine. Annoying, though. This is Word 2004
v11.1.1 under OS X 10.4.0 on an iMac G5 -- same setup as many of our
users who aren't having any problem.

Have done the following:

1. Trashed all MS prefs;
2. Virus scan;
3. Reinstalled Word.

The problem remains. Any ideas?

Thanks,
z

Reinstalling Word is meaningless if you don't also delete, or if you
just restore, whatever was causing the problem in the first place.
You've still got whatever it was still hanging around - that's all there
is to it. It's probably a Startup item (in the Office folder), maybe an
Adobe PDF thing. Or it could just conceivably be in the Normal template.

Fair enough; so I should have been more specific and pointed out that
before reinstalling Word I also deleted all the prefs, the Normal
template, replaced all the templates on the user's machine... The
Office folder is one of the folders that is replaced with the
reinstallation of Word; at least, I can't find an Office folder outside
the main Microsoft Office 2004 folder.

Which leaves Acrobat; so I removed all traces of Reader 6 and installed
Reader 7, and my brief test seems to show that did the trick. Thanks.

Maybe you¹ve fixed things already, but if not ....
That message used to crop up for me occasionally when someone had infected
me with a macro virus.

If my any chance you are still having the problem, check to see if there are
any macros in your organizer that you do not recognize. Getting rid of
them/it could remove this issue if all else fails.

Best,
