word count with lots of formatting

hello - i have a doc that has headers & footers & lots of
formatting. i get a word count of 931. i made a PDF of
it, copied it all, & pasted it into Word again
(formatting goes away). then i get a word count of 1361.

is there a better way to get a truly accurate word count
other than my work-around above?

Hi Jennifer,

Just guessing here, but I would imagine that Word only counts the words in
the Header and Footer one time.

Hi

There are lots of Word count programs out there which can be configured.

Often, they are found on translators sites as they need to count the number
of Words and take into account repeated or similar passages which don't have
to be translated twice.
