WORD COUNT

I have just realised that when I highlight a section of a word document to
count the words it INCLUDES the words which are in the endnotes. Is there a
way to stop this? As far as my university is concerned endnotes are not
included in the wordcount-thats the whole point in making them endnotes as
far as I am concerned!!!
