Word Crash!! No luck in Word forum

[Cali Tech]

When I go to insert, picture from file, and then open dialog box comes up
i get a error screen saying word encountered an error.

here are the details.

AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 10.0.6612.0 ModName: comctl32.dll
ModVer: 5.82.2900.2982 Offset: 00061d13

I have uninstalled all office products and reinstalled office and the error
till happens.
Any clues on where to start?

Does the error still occur if you start Word using the /a switch? (Start -
Run - type winword.exe /a)

I have XP with sp2, do you really think this is safe.
Will i have to register it or a simple restart do the trick.

I honestly don't know. When I Googled the file name, that site came up. I
trust PC World and, lets face it, Word's not working now. It's what I would
try after Googling the bejeebers out of that error.

If I try and unregister comctl32.dll or register it I get the following error

Comctl32.dll was loaded, but the DllunregisterServer entry point was not
found.

The file can not be registered.

any other thoughts?

I had the same problem here... this is how i fixed it: right click on desktop - properties - appearance - advanced.

Then check if your properties for Icon, Horizontal space between icons and Vertical space between icons are all higher than 16-17, if the spaces between are less then 17, i made the Word, Outlook, Powerpoint crash of the comctl32.dll module on inserting an image from file.
