Word crash on Quit Comand ?

F

Febo

I am facing the following situation , when after having complete my job, print , close the document , I quit Word. Instead of closing the application the "Microsoft Error Reporting" shows up with the message that "... Word encountered a problem..." ?
Very strange I was trying to close the application with no other activities running that can be connected to Word.
What is going wrong here ?

MacOSX 10.5.1 MacBook Pro , Office 2008 installed since today ( Office 2004 removed from the Office 2008 installer).
Thanks

Hi Febo,

Test your preferences as follows ...

Quit all Office apps.

Drag the following file to your desktop:
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.word.plist (where ~ represents your
Home folder).

Relaunch Word and see if the problem is gone. If not ...

Quit all Office apps again.

Drag the Microsoft prefs folder to your desktop:
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft

Relaunch Word and test it now.

(You can restore these prefs files/folders if nothing works.)

Please report back on whether or not these suggestions fix the problem!

Sorry Beth Rosengard,
I have try your suggested solutions but Word keep on showing up the dialog of Error Reporting.
The strange is that with Excel, PowerPoint, Entourage does not happen ?
However thanks very much for the help.

In addition to Beth's suggestions - Have you tried running Disk Utility -
Repair Disk Permissions? After doing so restart your Mac.

Thanks CyberTaz, but this was my very first action to try to solve the problem.
Why does this happen only when I quit Word and not Excel or PowerPoint , this makes me confused.
Now if I try to re-install the whole office 2008 again without office 2004 there will be a problem as my purchase was upgrade?

Thanks for your time and help

Hi Febo,
Please send me the entire log file and I¹ll see if I can track this one
down. My e-mail address is below.

Some other things to try:
1. Delete or move ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal
2. Delete or move ~/Library/Application Support/User Templates/Normal.dotm
3. Delete or move ~/Library/Preferences/Word Settings (10)

Let me know if any of these remedy the crash.

Thanks,

Curt
