Word Crash on Startup

T

Tim Evans

I have WinXP and Office 2000. When I start Word I get a
message saying that Word has encountered a problem and
needs to close, therefore I can not start Word. I
uninstalled Office 2000 and Word and then reinstalled
both and still get the same message. If I look at the
error report I see the following info.

Code: 0xC0000005
Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x00000000000000000
Address: 0x00000000303e4fbd

The module flagged is Winword.exe.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I followed the instructions in this document and had no
success. My normal.dot file did not exist and after
deleting registry entry it still did not work. So, I
removed Office 2000 and then reinstalled. Word now comes
up and works, unless I select the File or Tools pulldown
and then it crashes. I installed SR-1a and SP 3 for
Office 2000 and still have the same problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The Normal.dot file does almost certainly exist, but you will not find it
unless you set your Windows Explorer Folder Options to display Hidden and
System files and explicitly include them in your search. This could very
well be a Normal.dot problem, and reinstalling does not overwrite
Normal.dot.
