Word Crash

Whenever I am running Word 2000 SR1 and I try to open a
file I get an error message which reads:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down.

Then under details it reads:

WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module
WINWORD.EXE at 0177:3040ea0c.

It runs alright as long as I don't try to access file,
edit, view etc. I have run numerous virus checks,
reinstalled works, word but I have gotten nowhere.
