word crashes after clicking bullet button

Hi all,

I have word 2000 on a windows 2000 computer.
Every time I press the bullet or numbering button, word crashes.

I have tried it on new documents. I have replaced the normal.dot file
and the problem still occurs. The repair function of my office CD
didn't help. Before I reinstall the entire office package, has anyone
a suggestion?

For starters, more than likely reinstalling will not resolve this
issue.

It could be caused by some corruption in the Registry. Exit Word and
in the Registry drill down to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\List Gallery
Presets

and rename the "List Gallery Presets" key. Word will create a new one
upon starting.

As always, prior to making any changes to the Registry you should
review "Backing up the Registry" and "Restoring the Registry" in the
Registry Help.

In this situation you may want to use the Registry/Export Registry
file command, export your selected branch, and delete the key. That
way if you find the change wasn't necessary or incorrect, you can
merge the deleted branch back to the Registry by double-clicking the
resulting file. Otherwise if you find renaming the key corrected the
problem it can be deleted.
