I installed an older (1999) Umax scanner to this XP Pro SP1 machine. Not
only did hte scanner not work, but now MS Word and Photo Editor 2000 don't
work either. Photo-Editor gives the crach screen immediately ("Microsoft
Photo Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience...") while Word waits about 15 seconds before it crashes.
During the scanner install or uninstall at some point a window popped up
asking for the Windows installation disk so it could restore a changed
Windows file. Actually it did this a couple of times, but the last time the
machine was rebooted before it had a chance to read the file.
I have since re-installed WinXP over top of the existing application (using
the Upgrade option on the CD), removed Office entirely and re-installed it -
all to no avail.
Where do I go from here?
