Word crashes after Office SP3 install

I have approximatly 2500 users receivine an error message when they are
working within Word 2003. Error states "you are working without a Word work
file and memory is nearly full. Save your work". From this point all work in
the document is lost and they have to start all over. Problem started shortly
after installation of Office 2003 Service Pack 3. I found that the problem
does not happen if any of the users are granted local admin rights but this
is not an option due to the security risk. It is a huge problem. Please help
me resolve this. Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like the user does not have read write permission for where
ever the "Word work file" is located.
Without details of your typical installed configuration for your users, I'd
be guessing as to where the file might be,or what you should do to either
change the location (if possible), or allow user access to the current
location. You might also try "run as admin" for word, and see if that helps.

I had the same problem. I eventually learned that the SP3 install was
corrupting the Normal.DOT file in my user directory. Just delete the user's
normal.dot and that might fix your problem.
