Word crashes after short time

Hi. I'm running XP pro on a laptop. I have Office 2003 pro. Word has worked
fine for 15 months. Now today, it crashes after 10 - 15 seconds every time.
I can try load a file but it still crashes. I had been working on the same
file as Wednesday (did not turn computer on in between). I made sure my
virus protection was up to date. I defragged my hard drive. I uninstalled
Office. I Reinstalled Office. Same result. What's up with this? I'm stuck.

Open Word and then use File, Open, select the document and then use Open &
Repair (the little down arrow at the side of the OPEN button finds the
option) and see if that rescues the document.

A couple of other possibilities: can Word see a printer driver? Also, after
those crashes you may need to clean out the abandoned temp files: see the
following FAQ for some guidance -

The document is fine. I've used it on another machine. Word crashes after
launching without clicking on anything or typing anything in after a short
period of time. I have deleted the temp files as you suggested in an earlier
post to another problem (I actually looked for this error before posting
myself - novel concept hehe).

This morning I was at my clients office and was connected to printers as
usual through the network. I did not print anything though so I'm not sure
if that would have been a problem. I have several printer drivers loaded for
those network printers. In the mean time, I will try and connect to my
printer at home and get a word document to print, if it gives me enough time!

Thank you very much Suzanne and Terry. It turns out to be the printer. I
installed a local printer and presto! All is normal in my world. It seems
silly now but I recall that about when this started happening to me at my
clients office, there were other people having trouble connecting to the
internet as well as other network odditities. I would not doubt that this
affected my word app. On Monday I will change my default printer back to a
network printer and see what happens.

Again, thanks so much for your help and have a great weekend.
