Word crashes, but only when Outlook is running

This is for XP/SP2 + Office 2003.
When i have Outlook running, the MS Word window and WINWORD.EXE process
cannot survive more the a few keystrokes (and Outlook gets stuck!).
When Outlook is not launched, i have no pb with Word.
Made extensive testing for viruses and the like, but found nothing.
(Symantec AV + AVG + CWShredder + Ad-Aware + Spybot + a-squarred)
The "detect and repair" Office setup procedure was also carried out several
times.
I also removed office and installed from scratch with no effect!
Any clues what could i do next?

Thank you Graham,
The point is that I am NOT using Word as my e-mail editor: I used to, but I
stop when this pb arouse (I had one week of work without pbs). Word crashes,
when Outlook is running, otherwise not!
Also Word doesn't crash when started in safe mode.
Any more clues would be greatly appreciated.

Did you read the trouble shooting tips in the links I provided?

Yes I followed your (very clear) procedure to remove all temp files, but the
pb persists.
I have also installed Office SP1 French: no change.
Do you think there is some likelyhood this pb is linked to the fact that
this is a (new) DELL laptop? I didnot have this pb on my former PC with the
same software from the same CD!

You need to read the second link also. The first clears the mess - the other
attends to the likely problems.

Dear Graham,
thank you for still answering my questions.
I first could not follow your second link
(there is an invisible character ant the end of the link that must be
deleted int the adress bar of IE after first failure,

only then do I get to the page ProbsOpeningWord).
I studied it (carefully) and made the following trials

1) I made a local printer the default one (no effect)
2) I destroyed all template (.dot) and ~$*.do? files (no effect)
3) I deleted these groups of registry keys:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data
and then also :
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data
(no effect)
4) I started word as winword.exe /a
(no effect)

but starting in safe mode (winword.exe /safe) word doen't crash.

ALSO TO BE MORE PRECISE:
a) Word does not crash immediately at startup, but only after the first time
a new paragraph is created/ended!
(The document may be new or already existing)
b) Excel, Powerpoint never crash.
c) Word does not crash when Outlook is not running.
d) Word does NOT crash if is started BEFORE Outlook, the both coexist
peacefully.
e) When word crashes, Outlook does not crash as a consequence,
but when Outlook is closed (any normal way) its process (outlook)
remains in memory.

From the (a) point can you infer that there is a problem with some template
files ?

This i a correction to my previous post:
I don't need to create a new paragraph for word to crash.
After more testing i found that it crashes after a few keystrokes, any few
keys will do!
Sorry

This is bizarre and I regret one of those problems that may be peculiar to
the hardware/software configuration of your PC. The fact that it starts in
safe mode suggests there is nothing wrong with the core program files and
that the issue is caused by external influences. Frankly I don't see a
simple solution presenting itself and I cannot think of any further
suggestions that may help. Others may, of course offer their suggestions.
Can I suggest that you ask the question in an Outlook group as someone there
may be able to offer insight from a different perspective.

Well, thank you Graham,
I did post to the MS Outlook group, but the guys there said it was a WORD pb
:)
If I find a solution, I'll post it here ...
