Word crashes every time I open it...

Every time I open Word it seems to open a new document
titled Document1, Document2 etc. It's now up to
Document14 which is indicative of how many time word has
crashed on me. Themessage I get is:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

There is a checkbox to Recover my work and restart
Microsoft Word and buttons to send, or not send, the
error report to Microsoft.

This behavior occurs even if I open Word using start/run
with the /a option.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have renamed
normal.dot and deleted the data registry key (as
suggested by a troubleshooting document in the MS
knowledgebase. I have even repaired the application using
the control panel Add/Remove programs option. Nothing
seems to work.

Thanks,
Ralph Fraley

Try to remove the Compatibility Mode Setting in Windows XP
-------------------------------------------------------------

1. Locate and then open the following folder, where <drive> is the drive on which Word is installed:

<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

2. Right-click Winword.exe, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Compatibility tab, click to clear all the check boxes, and
then click OK.
