Word crashes on G5 with 5.5GB RAM

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

Word crashes constantly on my Power Mac G5, which has 5.5GB RAM yet is perfectly fine on my MacBook Pro. Is there an issue with Word and memoery amounts over 4GB?

There are multiple "issues" with Office 2008, on all computers.

But it is worse on a PowerPC, and much worse if you are using OS 10.5.
