I have a strange problem with MS Word 2004 (version 11.2.3) on an Intel
Mac (OS X 10.4.6) using the font ITC Garamond light. I get the spinning
ball when i do the following steps.

- Intel mac with system 10.4.6
- MS Word 2004 version 11.2.3
- Open type font ITC Garamond light installed.
- Start MS Word.
- Make new blank document
- Choose the font ITC Garamond light
- type more than 1464 characters
- save the document
---> result spinning ball

This problem does not occor with the same configuration a Mac with G5
processor. For us this is a big problem because Garamond light is our
house style font. When editing and saving an existing document on an
Intel Mac Word crashes a lot.

Hello,

We have exactly this problem - except on our systems it is the fonts
Minion Pro, and HelveticaNeue.

The two fonts on our systems are Adobe Opentype style fonts, and work
perfectly on our G5 / G4 based systems. They also used to work on our
intel mac systems - which suggests that the problem has been introduced
by either an MS Office or OS X update recently. Simply taking the
offending fonts out of the Font Folder solves the problem - but is not
very practicable.

An earlier version of Office 2004 had different problems with OpenType
fonts (like... not showing them!). T these are the only opentype fonts
on our systems that we use (we think), and we suspect that the problem
is related to OpenType font handling somehow. But we don't have any
more information on what it might be.

We've tried regressing Office (and separately) OS X to earlier
versions, but so far not solved problem.

If you make any progress please report it here... :)

PROBLEM SOLVED !

The first time we had this problem was with the old Postscript font ITC
Garamond light. I decided to buy the Open type version ITC Garamond
light. This font has the same problem. But when i bought the Macintosh
true type version there was no problem any more!

When I load the Open type version in Suitcase I saw the description
Name ITCGaramondStd-Lt
Type OpenType - PS
Fundry Adobe Systems
Class Oldstyle

The adition PS behind OpenType I had my objections.
