Word Crashes On Launch

Within the last three days each time I launch Word 2000
it crashes. What could be causing it & how do I fix it?
I've tried reinstalling with no luck.

I had a similar problem, not only did Word freeze when I
tried to open it but I had to do a reboot to unfreeze the
whole PC. I found a Knowledge Base article which cured it
for me and it is relatively straightforward to do.
It is a problem with the "normal.dot" template in Word and
it is apparently quite common. I renamed it as shown in
the knowledge base article and it fixed it straight away.
Do a search in the Knowledge Base for article 290771 ( it
may be listed as Q290771 ) and see if it matches your
symptons.
