Word "crashes" on quitting

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

Every time I quit Word, I get the "Microsoft Error Reporting" dialog that says "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close." It happens only on Quit. I've re-installed, repaired permissions, deleted every com.microsoft.... plist and trashed the Microsoft folder in my Library-Preferences folder. Nothing works--it happens every time. The only similar question says it could be a old prefs file, but there isn't one (Intel Mac so I don't have Classic installed).

Excel and Powerpoint do not exhibit this problem--only Word. Any idea on what else to try?

It sounds like you've taken the appropriate initiative, so you may be one of
the select few where tkis is caused by a faulty Normal template. Word 2008
seems to be particularly sensitive to pre-existing Normals from prior
versions, so have a look at the following & follow the suggestions in order:

It was the Normal template. Don't know why because all I did is set the font and margins. But replacing it did fix the problem. Thanks.

Glad to help - just for reassurance, it isn't necessarily the result of
anything you did. It may be something that went awry during the upgrade to
2008 or carried over from something in 2004 that hadn't surfaced... And
sometimes it "just happens".
