Word crashes under OSX (EXC_Bad_Access)

Stefan

I have a serious problem with MS Word under Mac OSX. As soon as I
klick in the formatting toolbar the font-window, MS-word crashes. This
also happens when I open documents which imply some fonts which are
not standard.

In the crash log I find the follwing error messages:
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x848....

This is always the same message. I already deinstalled Office,
reinstalled again, I used disc-repair to repair all user rights for
the files etc.

The problem only arises in MS-Word (latest update), the oSX version I
have is 10.2.8 but it happened also in previous OSX versions.

Any ideas? Is there a corrupt file which is needed for font
substitutions etc???

Thanks, Stefan

Hi Stefan,

More likely, there's a corrupt font. If you remove all fonts except for
Apple/MS supplied fonts and the problem disappears, then you know for
certain that's the case. Then you need to isolate the bad font(s) and get
rid of it. See Method 4 in this KB article:

Hi Stefan:

Hop into your user Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder and find and move
"com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist" to the desktop. While you're at it, move
all the other preference files that have "Word" in the name.

All members of the Microsoft Office family MUST be quit, not just minimised,
when you do this.

That should fix it (Word will re-create its prefs files on open). You will
need to run through and re-set your preferences.

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot!! with your help I could solve the problem. It was a
corrupt font in HD/library/fonts. I deleted the whole folder and it
worked. After that I copied a original system version back to that
position and now it works.

Thansk again and best regards,
Stefan
