word crashes when I am not online

Segeni

Whenever I am not online and I open Microsoft Word, the application crashes.
This recently started after I downloaded what I now beleive may have been a
corrupt file Word file online.

The error signature I receive is:
AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 10.0.6612.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 00037efe

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's the MS Visual C runtime library file. Try renaming it as msvcrt.bad
and then Run Office Setup, And Repair option.

Hey TF

I followed your instructions but the problem still persists. Here is some
more background on the problem

The problem: When I am NOT online and leave a Word document idle for more
than a minute, it freezes and then crashes. (I think this happens when it
tries to auto-save). However when I am ONLINE I have no problems.

The histroy of MS Word on my PC: I have a new laptop that came with a 60 day
trial version for MS OFFICE 2003. I did not wish to install this new version,
so I uninstalled the version from my PC. And installed office XP.

Everything worked fine

I tried updating the MS OFFICE using Microsofts online server update tool,
but the update failed, saying it could not locate the most recent update on
my office program.

After this attempt the problem started. I noticed Word would crash anytime I
tried to open it when I was not online.

Is there any more information I can offer that will help you think what the
problem might be.

I have re-installed office XP a number of times, with the same problem
occuring only in Word.

When you say on line, you do mean connected to the Internet or do you mean
connected to your local network? Can Word see a local printer driver when it
is 'not connected on line'? If cannot see a printer, then you need to
install a printer driver locally (it doesn't matter if the printer isn't
connected, it is just that Word must be able to see a printer driver.

Hey Terry

By not online I mean not connected to the Internet. However, whenever I go
online, I am connected to a printer on a local network (I connect online
through a local network)

How do I install a local printer driver even if I don't have printer
connected to my laptop?

Thanks for all your help.

TF

Just install it as a local printer: it doesn't matter if it isn't
connected - it doesn't matter what printer driver Word sees, but it MUST see
a printer driver - but it is best to install the driver for the same printer
that you normally connect to.
