Word crashes when I try to save new documents

Word (in the Microsoft Office X bundle) will save changes I make to
existing Word documents. However, if I open a new document and then
try to save it, Word crashes completely.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hmm, that's strange. I'd say it suggests corruption in your Normal template,
which all new blank documents are based on. See the Testing the Normal
Template link from this page:

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

If that doesn't work, consistent reproducible crashes usually respond to one
of the standard troubleshooting fixes listed on that page, so work your way
through them.
