Word crashes when inserting reference from endnote

I've inserted around 160 references from endnote 8 into a word document, and
now every time I try to insert another it crashes. It only seems to be one
particular document - I've tried opening new documents with the same and
different templates, and they're fine. Endnote is also being very slow to
bring up the "find citation" box when I try to insert a reference into this
particular document. Has something corrupted the file? If so, how can I fix
it? This document's really important, and I can't rewrite it as it's really
long.

This sounds like a problem for the folks at Endnote. For starters, if you're
not using 8.02 or later, you should get the most recent update for your
version from here:

http://www.endnote.com/support/enupdates.asp

If that doesn't fix the problem, I would suggest asking on Endnote's user
forum or contacting Endnote's technical support:

http://www.endnote.com/support/entechform.asp

Off hand, when doing something in a Word document causes the document to
crash, the usual problem is a corrupted Word document. Do other actions
cause a crash too, or just when you try to insert a new reference?

Hi,

I think your file may be damaged or something. You may try to restore
it. If necessary, you can try a utility called Advanced Word Repair to
repair your Word document. It works rather well for my corrupt Word
documents. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/awr/ There is a
free demo that you can just use.

Stop spamming the Newsgroup with adverts for inappropriate utility. The
users do NOT need Word repair utility, they need to fix the cause.

I experienced something similar. There were actually two separate error
messages that popped up before the crash. A reinstall of endnote fixed
nothing. I ran a repair of office which resulted in the removal of one of
the error messages but word still crashed. I then tried opening endnote and
word under a different user on the same machine and both worked fine. I
backed everything up under the original profile, removed the original profile
then I then recreated the original profile. I only restored the following to
the recreated profile, documents, desktop items and favorites. So far
everything is working fine again.
