Word crashes when pasting from IE

When I try to cut and paste from a document or web page on
(via Internet Explorer) directly into a Word 2002
document, it crashes. However, when I copy and paste into
WordPad from IE, then into Word, there's no problem. I'd
like to eliminate the middle step. Any suggestions?
